    the main reason I'm not buying Plasticity is simply the lack of follow along curves is missing. It has follow along a curve, but not 2 curves. I make ornaments in Rhino, but I would love plasticitys quick easy modeling compared to Rhinos more heavy UI.

    hm. I need a clue to handle 1m faces in blender, contained in stl. boolean takes forever and does not work well with box-select and p-separate, even when I F-fill the holes resulting. I don't do sculpting and I wonder how they do that at all?

    • @ArtisansofVaul
      @ArtisansofVaul День тому

      Thats a lot of faces, especially for some computers. I would try a decimate modifier on it (depending on the model you can drop the ratio by a lot) but it might take a bit to do the calculations. Then it should be easier (though you may drop a little detail so you will need to balance that)

    • @Fahnder99
      @Fahnder99 20 годин тому

      @@ArtisansofVaul Yes but decimate also takes long and balancing takes ... forever. ATM I try to isolate the working area with knife/bisect +fill, working in place and then later joint the meshes with boolean. But it's hard. The problem with all this blender low poly modeling tricks is (as good as they are) - they don't work with high poly STL meshes with fancy detailed or rough surfaces. But as you said, decimate hard is a good idea.

    • @ArtisansofVaul
      @ArtisansofVaul 16 годин тому

      @Fahnder99 if decimation is taking that long it may be more a limitation of your computer/hardware. That's a tricky limitation to do much about but it seems to imply that you probably need to take that decimation time to make the mesh workable for your computer.

    The part at 4:20, depending on the circumstances, deleting the faces might not be the best option, especially if you're working with a finished object. I'd suggest using the knife tool instead to draw new edges over the existing ones, then edge select and dissolve the old ones. Stretching might still be an issue, but you shouldn't have to unwrap the UVs a second time with the knife method. Great video, btw.

    Thanks for the tutorial. I know this is two years old, but I ran into a problem with it. I followed all the steps, baked the animation. Then spend hours rearranging the rocks. When I saved and opened it again, Blender changed all of the positions again. Is there anyway these objects can be "un-animated" for good, so that they're not being moved around by Blender anymore?

    • @ArtisansofVaul
      @ArtisansofVaul День тому

      The baking saves the animation, not the specific positions. For that you need to get it to the position you want and ctrl+a ---> All Transformations (or Object ---> Rigid Body ---> Apply Transformations. I hope that helps.

    is this bad topology? is this the kind of thing that should be run through a quad mesher? other tuts ive seen seem to lose their minds when something has a lot of triangles.

    • @ArtisansofVaul
      @ArtisansofVaul 3 дні тому

      So in theory yes, youd want quads and quad remesher would do a lot to help with that. Unfortunately STLs come in a triangulated mesh because of how they work/function. This is mostly for reposing for 3D printing so triangles dont matter (in fact the mesh will be turned into triangles regardless for 3D printing) but for full animation quads would be better. And in that instance you would probably want to do a full rig.

    This is simpler now: You can right-click a Node Group's name (the name field, not in the top-bar) and Mark as Asset from there. Then to use an asset node graph, just drag it into your geometry node graph window. Full geometry node graphs can also be assets, just mark them from their name field as well. Not sure when that was added, but works nicely in Blender 4.1

    • @ArtisansofVaul

      Very true. It also deals with Geometry Node tools and Geometry Node setups differently. I have a video covering those changes here: ua-cam.com/video/Byp1dC0dRPo/v-deo.htmlsi=PBY9-gl8yUb9Zlqx

      For what I do Blender is perfect. I would probably have missed out learning Sketchup but I don't really regret it as I learnt a lot there that I then applied to Blender. Though for other people (depending on what you want to design) Plasticity could be perfect.

    I would round differently, select the top faces by normal, extrude a distance of $small, and shrink each face. Use a repeat note to do this however many times, and you can use a float curve node to control the curvature of the bevel you're creating

    • @ArtisansofVaul
      @ArtisansofVaul 16 годин тому

      I'm not sure if that would work as the extrusions would interact from the close vertices surrounding the face. I could be wrong though.

  • @EmilySmirleGURPS
    @EmilySmirleGURPS 5 днів тому

    Regarding remeshing without merging the scales - use the mesh island node, and the repeat node. Repeat from 0 to number of mesh islands (scales). On each loop use mesh separate to pull out faces which have the same mesh island as the current iteration. Pass the remaining mesh into the input to be used again on the next loop, remesh the island, and join that to your ever-growing collection of scales in the output.

    • @ArtisansofVaul
      @ArtisansofVaul 3 дні тому

      Oh nice idea. But won't that require counting all the scales? I wonder if there is a way to have it calculate the number of mesh islands there are... I'll have to check out how this works out.

  • @anubismacc8165
    @anubismacc8165 5 днів тому

    A question, wouldn't it be better instead of using it as a Boolean, invert the colors of the Voronoi Texture and make the scales ?

    • @ArtisansofVaul
      @ArtisansofVaul 5 днів тому

      I don't think I explained that very clearly in the video. You can do it that way but if you do then you will end up with a subdivided shape on each of the scales that remain meaning that you then can not smooth/round the corners in the later stages. If you don't mind that then yes that would work.
